Campbell Child Development Center was founded in 2001 out of a dream to create a nurturing, hands-on environment that enhances the development of the whole child socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively, based on growing knowledge of best practices. Campbell Child Development Center is a year round school which is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (extended hours are available by request), serving children from 3 months to 6 years of age. Half, Part, and Full Day schedules are available, three to five days per week, to meet varying child and family needs.
Campbell Child Development Center is built on the principle that children learn best through play! In our rich, developmentally appropriate environment, children develop positive self-concepts, proactive communication skills, and a life-long love of learning through hands-on experiences. Children are encouraged to explore, invent, and discover logical paths to create meaningful experiences and their own unique understanding of the world. We value family traditions and family involvement in the ongoing education of young children. We believe in building a strong community through mutual respect, collaboration, understanding, and open communication.
Serving infants beginning Fall 2013. We aspire to implement RIE philosophy, co-founded by Magda Gerber in 1973, the basis of which is “respect for and trust in the child as initiator, explorer, and a self learner”.
Our teachers observe children engaging in play, documenting their interactions as well as their emerging skills and interests. Combining this information with their knowledge of child development and knowledge of family traditions, Early Childhood Educators create emergent curriculum. This process is what’s known as Developmentally Appropriate Practice, a guideline created by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our staff meets regularly to coordinate consistency, share information, and collaborate on a program that reflects the children and families within.
We support children in developing self- regulation skills, a sense of personal responsibility, and problem solving skills through positive discipline. We model, facilitate, redirect, and use positive reinforcement to guide children in learning to make appropriate choices.
Building a Positive Self-Concept
A combination of multi-age grouping and a regard for individual family traditions encourages an environment of respect for others and their differences. This builds a child's self confidence and allows for more open and direct communication with peers and adults. Children begin to see others as their equals, regardless of their age or background.
Our Daily Schedule
7:30 am to 11:30
As children arrive, they are welcomed with a choice of opening activities. Additional learning centers open as more children arrive. Center time includes all of the possible learning centers, including our outdoor area. At 9:30, teacher-guided group activities begin, focusing on communication and cooperation skills. As those activities come to a close, children are encouraged to again explore the learning centers based on their own interests. A snack is available in our nutrition center.
11:30 to 3:15
Children enjoy a nutritious lunch brought from home. As children finish lunch, the transition to rest time begins. Outdoor activities are provided as children awaken.
3:15 to 5:30
Group time begins again and center activities follow. Our nutrition center offers children a chance to make themselves an afternoon snack. Closing activities, designed to smooth the transition between school and home, begin around 5:30. Our facilities close at 5:30 pm.
